Heritage Bay Club — Monsoon Cup Malaysia

Heritage Bay Club — Monsoon Cup Malaysia

The Challenge

The Malaysian government selected Terengganu as the host for the Monsoon Cup, an international sailing competition that would put Malaysia on the global sailing map. The project required building a resort, marina, and event operations from nothing — in a rural coastal area with no existing hospitality infrastructure. Beyond the physical build-out, the biggest challenge was winning over local villagers who were sceptical about the event and convincing them that international tourism would benefit their community.

What I Did

  • Led the full pre-opening of the Heritage Bay Club resort for the Monsoon Cup sailing competition
  • Set up the resort and marina facilities to international standards for competing sailing teams
  • Established a sales and marketing agency to promote the Monsoon Cup as a global event
  • Engaged with local villagers to build community acceptance of the Monsoon Cup as a tourism initiative for Malaysia
  • Built all offices and operational departments from scratch in a greenfield location
  • Set up marina infrastructure for international boat teams and race operations
  • Liaised with international sailing organisers and Malaysian government agencies
  • Managed VIP hospitality for royalty, ambassadors, and government ministers attending the event
